Today I want to talk about a topic of importance for those walking the Red Road and other spiritual paths.
Many people don't realize the depth of the student/teacher relationship and all that it entails. If you give a teacher tobacco and ask them to do something for you, such as to teach you something or to support you in facing a challenge, and if your teacher accepts the tobacco, then you are each making a commitment. Your teacher is committing to keeping you safe and sharing what Spirit has given or told them to share. You are making a commitment to both your teacher and to Creator/Spirit to carry out that task. If you don't follow through with your commitment, then it can come back on you and your teacher.

For example, if you promise to do a Sun Dance or a Vision Quest and then you change your mind, your teacher has to carry out that commitment for you. I have had to step up more than once to complete a commitment that one of my students made and then chose, for one reason or another, not to follow through on.
Think carefully before making commitments and when you do make a promise, then keep it. Keep the energy balanced. This is good advice in all areas of your life so you are known as a person with integrity who can be counted on to do what you say you will do.

When a teacher does a ceremony for you or they spend their day teaching you something, it takes time and energy. Keep your commitment and remember to reciprocate so your teacher can keep their bills paid and their family fed. Otherwise, they won't be able to continue to share the medicine with students like you. If you value these teachings, then support them and those who share them so the energy keeps on flowing.
All Good Medicine,
Wind Daughter
Thank you for imparting this wisdom! I had no idea. Kitty
