Grandmother's Musings: Creating Sacred Space

ree

My Bohemian Owl Wagon honors the medicine of Owl.

ree

Owl is a Medicine I've always worked with behind the scenes: the one who travels silently on special soft wings; the one who has great wisdom; the one who can hide even in the daylight and not be seen; the one who has soft feathers and a wonderful magical voice. The owls that live here around my home hoot and call to each other. I call back to them and they call back to me.

Another aspect of my Owl Wagon is the energy of the Aspen trees. Although Aspen does not grow where I live, it is what the people who made this unit named it:  Aspen Trail.

I have been doing a lot of my Sacred Work inside my Owl Wagon. I just finished a Pipe Ceremony that was done virtually for our community. I have smoked for many people who needed my help. I have done some divination for them and have tried to guide them with what has come to me.

It's not an unusual thing for Medicine People to have a special dwelling. It is their Medicine House where they keep their Sacred Medicine things. By using this sacred space to do ceremonial work, the energy builds and the work that is done continues to grow upon the work that has been done previously in that space.

I continue to bring my Medicine Helpers in.  All of my Pipes now live here. Several of my drums have their special place.  I have books and medicine cards and herbs throughout the cubby holes and shelves. I like having things at my fingertips. I like everything ready should the need arise for prayers and sacred work.

I am fortunate to have a family that understands my spiritual needs and supports me in the work that I do. I know that everyone cannot do what I have done, but I do suggest that you have a special place in your home, a special room or even a corner of a room where all of your Medicine resides, a place where you can go to be in solitude to pray and do your sacred work.

All of you are very dear to me and if you need me, please be in touch. I will take your needs and prayers into this little sacred dwelling and send healing and strength and comfort and peace to you.
